Back Your A** Up – The Workshop

Finally, coming VERY SOON, I will be announcing the date(s) for my workshop. What?!?! Another workshop by a photographer?!?! I won’t be talking about posing, workflow (well sort of), lighting, marketing, etc. My workshop will be covering what NO OTHER WORKSHOP has covered. Backing up and archiving your digital assets.

I’m really excited to be doing this. I feel there’s a pretty big demand for this and photographers need to have a better understanding of backing up and archiving their photos. It really is more than just burning a DVD or copying files to a hard drive. 10+ years in the IT industry has to have something worth sharing in the photography community, right? Here’s an overview of what I’ll be covering:

  • Why your computer and hardware are important to your workflow.
  • Your hard drive will fail.
  • Learn how to set up your Mac/PC for optimal performance.
  • Keeping your “other” files safe.
  • The three Rs in keeping your data safe.
  • Putting it all together – the minimum, intermediate and advanced setup for data storage.
  • Ways to automate your backups.
  • Care and feeding of your backup system – ongoing maintenance.

Also, if you still don’t have a consistent, AUTOMATED, backup and archival system in place, I am looking for a few photographers for case studies. Please shoot me an email if you’re interested in participating!

Let me know what you think or if you are interested in attending by leaving a comment below. If you find this workshop of value to other photographers, please retweet my post. Thanks!

EDIT: The official details of the workshop will be posted on my workshop page: http://www.alfredbertulfo.com/for_photographers/workshops/

I got nothing as far as a photo for this post so you get my son for your viewing pleasure….

Way to go Alfred! This is so awesome. I am super pumped for you. If I lived on Cali I would attend for sure. I’m totally game for testing stuff for you. I will surely pass this on!

  2. Karen R. says:

Hi Alfred! I actually consider myself fairly well-informed and regimented in my backing-up process, but I’d be interested in what you have to share — you can never have TOO much knowledge! Also, will you be talking about the Drobo or the Pogoplug? Just curious! (I use a Drobo, and have been considering a PogoPlug for access to my files when away from home). :-) Thanks so much!

  3. Alfred B says:

@ Karen R – I will be talking about the Drobo, as well as other large storage devices, their benefits, and drawbacks. As for the Pogoplug, there are much more efficient and secure ways than that device.

@ Karen S – I think a workshop date in Portland is definitely in order. You think you can wrestle together 15 or so photographers?

  4. Thomas Frank says:

Im there, actually I’m still interested in being a ginny pig. Just let me know…Plus I will still go to your workshop

YAY! I would be interested…and I could probably be a test subject for you too…you might be horrified at my process. :)
