It’s been a whirlwind six or so months.. I won’t go into too much detail but I’ll try to break it down as simple as possible! How about a list? I like lists..

I’ve merged my photography business with two other photographers! We’re in the process of opening up a studio to better serve our clients and to allow us greater flexibility in our creativity. You can find out more about us here: Coco Gallery
I’m starting to do a lot of video work with my DSLR, again, along with one of my photographer friends Thomas Pellicer. We’re slowly adding more videos to the site (LOTS of editing!) but you can learn more about us here: Mango Cinema
I have one more project that I’m working on with a few other people that’s going to be pretty EPIC. I think it’ll be a major game changer in the event services industry..

2010 Fall Portrait Mini-Session Promotion

Yet again another year has past! I have been extremely blessed to have had some amazing clients and have had the pleasure of working with other great photographers this past year. It’s been almost three years since this journey into photography began! Thank you! Anyways, my favorite time of the year is upon us. Let’s face it. The holiday season is coming. I knew for a fact when I walked into my local Rite-Aid only to see Christmas lights and decorations for sale. I look forward to this time of year because this is the time my family gets our annual family portrait. Something I think every family should do! It’s so awesome to see how much our children have grown and changed over the years. I guess it also shows how much older we’ve gotten BUT in a celebratory way!! Camera Phone Friday – Yo, you got the juice now, man.

“Yo, you got the juice now, man.” is a quote from the movie Juice starring Omar Epps (This was one his first acting gigs and he’s come a long way) and also featuring the late Tupac Shakur. It was one of my favorite movies back in the day when I was a immature teen. Anyways, this shot reminded me of the movie.

I’m still amazed at the quality of the photos that are pumped out of my HTC EVO. The amount of control and customizability of the phone in general makes me 100% satisfied in pitching the iPhone. Face time? Got it. And I can even face time with iPhone users using a cool app called fring. And no, it doesn’t require WiFi! All the apps that I depended on on the iPhone, I have on my EVO: Remember the Milk, Bump, Google Voice, Shazam, Seesmic, and even WordPress. I’m typing this post on my EVO via the WordPress app while on the go!

Camera Phone Friday – Waiting Patiently

Happy Friday everyone! Friday’s used to be iPhone Fridays but now that I’m on the awesome HTC EVO 4G, we shall call it Camera Phone Fridays. Anyways, I had this grand plan to do a 365 Android photo series thanks to my buddy Thomas. I FAILED. Pretty miserably too after I think 16 days! The EVO takes amazing photos at 8mp. It was the getting out of my creative comfort zone that killed it.

Here’s one of the photos from the series. I caught this one of my littlest one looking out the window waiting for mommy to come home. The glare from the sun makes this photo very surreal. For this photo, I believe I used the app Vignette for processing.

Hope you all have a great weekend! Nothing major planned this weekend, but I will be shooting some video at a wedding reception tonight. Grand entrance includes a Rolls Royce Phantom! Yeah, I’ll be snapping some phone pics FOR SURE!

Alyssa & Brian – Fusion Engagement

Wow, where have I been!?!?! I seriously suck at blogging. I mean, I get that I’m not the type that can blog every other day or every week for that matter. Anyways, I’ve been shooting a lot, learning a lot and doing a lot of video editing. There’s some cool things coming soon, but I’m not going to hype it up when nothing comes out of it. But I’m still excited about it. You just might find out about it first right here on the blog. Maybe.

Anyways, back in June, I had the pleasure of joining Danny Mendoza, Jason Zalameda, Thomas Frank Pelicer, and Emily Ivey for a little fusion photo and video shoot. It was lots of fun, it kind of all happened in a blur but in the end is this video I got to edit. Let me preface by saying, it’s been almost 5 years since I’ve touched Final Cut and the first few days of this edit was pretty stressful, nerve racking, and a huge testing of my patience. But just like riding a bike, it all came back… eventually. There’s still a ton to re-learn and new things to learn but it’s slowly coming to me. Like any good tool, you need to master it to really use it to its full potential. I got a lot of video to edit…

Baby Nia

Baby and childrens photography is tough! The sessions are almost always on their time. Which is fine with me. I’ve seen way too many childrens portraits where they are crying or it was obvious that they had been crying. I know, I have a few of those! I had the pleasure of photographing Baby Nia last month. Baby Nia’s parents are good friends of ours from back in college. I can’t wait to photograph her more! Her big sister Carina wasn’t in the mood this time around to get some photos taken with her so hopefully next time I can get a few photos of them together. It might take some bribing with candy because candy ALWAYS works! Keep a look out for future sessions with this little cutie!

WPPI 2010 Night Shoot

So for reals, I thought I had already blogged these photos. Man I’m such a bad blogger! Anyways, way back when I was in Las Vegas for WPPI, I wanted to do a night shoot on the strip and play with OCF (Off Camera Flash). It helps when you know good looking people. I met Jenn a few years ago while I was working on a contract for the Las Vegas Water District. We both started about the same time and good portion of my time there was spent working with her department. Anyways, it was a long shot but I sent her a message to see if she and her boyfriend Rudy would be interested in a gazillion photos by a handful of wedding photographers. Well she agreed and we set up a date. I also invited a handful of my friends from Facebook and fellow FastTrack Photographers to come along.

So remember how I said I wanted to do a night shoot with OCF? Yeah that didn’t happen. We started shooting on the bridge, getting all our flashes all setup, but there was so much foot traffic (on a Monday night) and it was pretty cold with a nice breeze blowing. Seeking shelter from the cold wind, we abandoned the idea of OCF and since the strip is so freakin’ bright with all its lights, we just decided to shoot with the ambient. So here’s a sampling of what I captured…

Los Angeles FastTrack Group Meeting

Last night was the second meeting for the FastTrack group, Los Angeles, lead by my good friend Leila Jones and graciously hosted by Janell Mithani. Today wasn’t a normal group meeting though. We headed to the hills to do a night shoot. Many of the people that attended were either new or still felt they were new to photography! Talk about throwing them into the fire, by the time we got to the location, it was almost pitch black with very little street light to keep us sane. Flash photography in pitch black generally doesn’t yield very good results. I brought my Sunpak 383 flashes and RF-602 remote triggers to do a little off camera lighting. I had an extra trigger so I shared with anyone that wanted to try it out. I think I sold a lot of them on it. Considering my entire one light setup only cost < $150. Some of the photos I saw from them were great being their first time ever working with off camera flash! Anyways, here’s a couple of my photos, I spent more time helping and answering questions with the occasional shot squeezed in. Oh and it was a bit chilly too..
