2010 Fall Portrait Mini-Session Promotion

Yet again another year has past! I have been extremely blessed to have had some amazing clients and have had the pleasure of working with other great photographers this past year. It’s been almost three years since this journey into photography began! Thank you! Anyways, my favorite time of the year is upon us. Let’s face it. The holiday season is coming. I knew for a fact when I walked into my local Rite-Aid only to see Christmas lights and decorations for sale. I look forward to this time of year because this is the time my family gets our annual family portrait. Something I think every family should do! It’s so awesome to see how much our children have grown and changed over the years. I guess it also shows how much older we’ve gotten BUT in a celebratory way!! Okay, maybe I should stop now… but read on for this years family fall portrait session promotion! I know you all have been so eagerly waiting for this!!

Packages for 2010 are a little different than the past year’s. Nothing beats a beautiful print on a fine canvas. All my packages include a canvas print. If you’ve never seen a photo on canvas, let me know, they are breathtaking! Below are my Fall Mini-Session Promotion packages. I am only booking these packages between October 1st through November 19th in order to get your prints in time before the holiday rush. All sessions require a 50% retainer based on the package you select in order to secure your date/time slot. Holiday Deluxe Session Package – $750

30-45 minute portrait session on location.
15-20 edited proofs for viewing and ordering.

(3) 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ mini accordion book (Great gift for grandparents!)

Making Memories Package – $250

Wow, where have I been!?!?! I seriously suck at blogging. I mean, I get that I’m not the type that can blog every other day or every week for that matter. Anyways, I’ve been shooting a lot, learning a lot and doing a lot of video editing. There’s some cool things coming soon, but I’m not going to hype it up when nothing comes out of it. But I’m still excited about it. You just might find out about it first right here on the blog. Maybe.

Anyways, back in June, I had the pleasure of joining Danny Mendoza, Jason Zalameda, Thomas Frank Pelicer, and Emily Ivey for a little fusion photo and video shoot. It was lots of fun, it kind of all happened in a blur but in the end is this video I got to edit. Let me preface by saying, it’s been almost 5 years since I’ve touched Final Cut and the first few days of this edit was pretty stressful, nerve racking, and a huge testing of my patience. But just like riding a bike, it all came back… eventually. There’s still a ton to re-learn and new things to learn but it’s slowly coming to me. Like any good tool, you need to master it to really use it to its full potential. I got a lot of video to edit…

Baby Nia

Baby and childrens photography is tough! The sessions are almost always on their time. Which is fine with me. I’ve seen way too many childrens portraits where they are crying or it was obvious that they had been crying. I know, I have a few of those! I had the pleasure of photographing Baby Nia last month. Baby Nia’s parents are good friends of ours from back in college. I can’t wait to photograph her more! Her big sister Carina wasn’t in the mood this time around to get some photos taken with her so hopefully next time I can get a few photos of them together. It might take some bribing with candy because candy ALWAYS works! Keep a look out for future sessions with this little cutie!

WPPI 2010 Night Shoot

So for reals, I thought I had already blogged these photos. Man I’m such a bad blogger! Anyways, way back when I was in Las Vegas for WPPI, I wanted to do a night shoot on the strip and play with OCF (Off Camera Flash). It helps when you know good looking people. I met Jenn a few years ago while I was working on a contract for the Las Vegas Water District. We both started about the same time and good portion of my time there was spent working with her department. Anyways, it was a long shot but I sent her a message to see if she and her boyfriend Rudy would be interested in a gazillion photos by a handful of wedding photographers. Well she agreed and we set up a date. I also invited a handful of my friends from Facebook and fellow FastTrack Photographers to come along.

So remember how I said I wanted to do a night shoot with OCF? Yeah that didn’t happen. We started shooting on the bridge, getting all our flashes all setup, but there was so much foot traffic (on a Monday night) and it was pretty cold with a nice breeze blowing. Seeking shelter from the cold wind, we abandoned the idea of OCF and since the strip is so freakin’ bright with all its lights, we just decided to shoot with the ambient. So here’s a sampling of what I captured…

WPPI Senior Model Shoot

So a few weeks ago, I attended the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) conference in Las Vegas. This was my second time and last year I noticed a lot of people going on a lot of photo shoots. I went to none! Well this year I looked into attending a few shoots and either they were already sold out OR way too expensive. So I decided to roll my own! I’ve been doing a lot high school senior portrait sessions lately so to get my practice and creativity on, I searched for some brave and willing models to come along. I also invited my fellow photographer friends Jason Zalameda, Thomas Frank Pelicar and Jeff Almquist to come and shoot too. Icing on the cake was my make up artist friend Rose Towers to come and do the models’ makeup. Having a makeup artist just makes for better photos!

So I’m not going to lie. I was freezing my butt off. But I didn’t tell anyone else that! I was the only one without a jacket. I realized by stateline that I didn’t bring a jacket for the entire trip! Anyways, we were literally at the edge of civilization. Desert on one side and sea of houses across the street. It was pretty windy which made using our flashes with umbrellas next to impossible, but thanks to Jeff, he became our light stand holder.

Despite loosing light fast, and freezing cold winds. I think the shoot was pretty successful! I just wish I had a jacket….

The true cost of wedding photography…

Whatever Wednesdays are back! I felt compelled to post this. Yes, the country is in a “recession”. I get that, but if we’re in a recession, why is it that people still have no problem spending money on high end goods? One of my good photographer friends, Karen Stott of Avayah Photography, wrote a great post on hiring a professional photographer. The Craigslist ad she mentions was quite the talk of the wedding photography industry. I don’t want to seem like a grumpy photographer but it’s so disheartening sometimes when I meet with great couples but they under value the importance of photography on their wedding day.

The old adage of “You get what you pay for..” is very true. If you want to only pay for photography at K-Mart prices, well that’s what you’re going to get.

I can’t write a post without a photo! This photos is from the City Center, Las Vegas this past weekend. I was there in Vegas helping out by friend Jason Zalameda shoot a wedding at the Mirage. The entire place screams expensive. We walked around that place pretty lost and it felt like we were in an airport. I guess I gotta give it some time to grow. The mall still had plenty of empty shops and it is still fairly new.

Nicole – Santiago High 2010 Senior

This Santiago High School class of 2010 senior is seriously awesome. I know I use that word a lot but in this case it’s very true. I took Nicole around downtown Fullerton and the Brea dam for this sweet senior session. Anyways, back to Nicole and her awesomeness. I met Nicole actually quite some time ago through a mutual friend. Little did I know then that she would be one of the few people that would babysit our kids on bible study nights or random occasions. So, not only is she great with kids but she is quite the role model that I’m glad my kids can look up to. Aside from a huge AP class load and all the other extra curricular school activities, she’s involved with charities like Invisible Children and a few church youth groups. Seriously puts my high school life experience to shame! Anyways, when she approached me to do her senior photos, I was more than happy and honored to. A young woman like Nicole with all her accomplishments truly deserves it!

Side note: Huge thanks to my wifey Erika for coming and baby A for hanging out, literally. Erika was our impromptu stylist/makeup/hold this and that for the day. You should’ve seen her juggle baby A, and my light stick in the brush. Baby A was such a trooper and very well behaved the whole time!

Ms. Griffin – Child Portraits

Thought I had posted this but as I was moving my blog posts, I noticed that it was still a draft! Anyways, Ms. Griffin’s mother had booked a session just before the holiday season. We took a trip to Little Corona Del Mar Beach for a quick photo session. She was great to work with and despite the harsh sun, we were able to get some great photos. This was the start of my marathon holiday portrait session. I believe I had two other shoots this day, one before and after this session. It was a VERY busy season! As always, comments appreciated. Shepherd Family Mini Session

Meet the Shepherd family. I was referred to them by the Lythgoe family whom I had taken their son’s newborn photos. I will openly admit, I was about 15 minutes late. I literally hit EVERY single red light on Beach Blvd. on my way to meet them at the Huntington Beach pier. Those that know me know I despise being late! I felt bad but there they were waiting patiently for me at the front of the pier.

The wind was blowing that day, but we managed to get some great photos in this mini-session. Little “C” is quite the handsome little guy! He was ready to play in the sand and was a trooper during the family portraits. Once those were done, we let him loose and let him do what kids are really good at. Having fun! I think the last photo shows just how much energy he had. He loved chasing the waves and hamming it up on a few shots.

The Shepherd family was a pleasure to photograph and I look forward to capturing more memories of them in the near future!

Portraits: Baby Landon

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing this cute little baby from Fullerton. His parents are friends of ours and happen to stop by the studio for some newborn photos for their baby announcement. In fact, you may have seen his dad, Peter Brandon, on my blog not too long ago of his concert photos. If you head over to his website, you’ll actually see some of my photography work there. I did a photo session with him before summer and had to hold off posting the photos until the new album was released. Look out for those on the blog soon!

Anyways, enough about his dad! This little guy was so chill during the entire session. He was such a trooper and as you can see by the photos, quite the handsome 10 day old! I look forward to more sessions with him and his family as he grows up. Let’s get on with the photos!
