Wow, where have I been!?!?! I seriously suck at blogging. I mean, I get that I’m not the type that can blog every other day or every week for that matter. Anyways, I’ve been shooting a lot, learning a lot and doing a lot of video editing. There’s some cool things coming soon, but I’m not going to hype it up when nothing comes out of it. But I’m still excited about it. You just might find out about it first right here on the blog. Maybe.

Baby and childrens photography is tough! The sessions are almost always on their time. Which is fine with me. I’ve seen way too many childrens portraits where they are crying or it was obvious that they had been crying. I know, I have a few of those! I had the pleasure of photographing Baby Nia last month.
So for reals, I thought I had already blogged these photos. Man I’m such a bad blogger! Anyways, way back when I was in Las Vegas for WPPI, I wanted to do a night shoot on the strip and play with OCF (Off Camera Flash). It helps when you know good looking people.
So a few weeks ago, I attended the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) conference in Las Vegas. This was my second time and last year I noticed a lot of people going on a lot of photo shoots. I went to none! Well this year I looked into attending a few shoots and either they were already sold out OR way too expensive. So I decided to roll my own! I’ve been doing a lot high school senior portrait sessions lately so to get my practice and creativity on, I searched for some brave and willing models to come along.
Whatever Wednesdays are back! I felt compelled to post this. Yes, the country is in a “recession”. I get that, but if we’re in a recession, why is it that people still have no problem spending money on high end goods? One of my good photographer friends, Karen Stott of Avayah Photography, wrote a great post on hiring a professional photographer. The Craigslist ad she mentions was quite the talk of the wedding photography industry. I don’t want to seem like a grumpy photographer but it’s so disheartening sometimes when I meet with great couples but

This Santiago High School class of 2010 senior is seriously awesome. I know I use that word a lot but in this case it’s very true. I took Nicole around downtown Fullerton and the Brea dam for this sweet senior session. Anyways, back to Nicole and her awesomeness. I met Nicole actually quite some

Thought I had posted this but as I was moving my blog posts, I noticed that it was still a draft! Anyways, Ms. Griffin’s mother had booked a session just before the holiday season. We took a trip to Little Corona Del Mar Beach for a quick photo session. She was great to work with and despite the harsh sun, we were able to get some great
Meet the Shepherd family. I was referred to them by the Lythgoe family whom I had taken their son’s newborn photos. I will openly admit, I was about 15 minutes late. I literally hit EVERY single red light on Beach Blvd. on my way to meet them at the Huntington Beach pier. Those that know me know I despise being late! I felt bad but there they were waiting patiently for me at the front of the pier.
The wind was blowing that day, but we managed to get some great photos in this mini-session. Little “C” is quite
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing this cute little baby from Fullerton. His parents are friends of ours and happen to stop by the studio for some newborn photos for their baby announcement. In fact, you may have seen his dad, Peter Brandon, on my blog not too long ago of [...]
I don’t know about you but, September came way too fast! Kids back in school, the fires are back, and well, I can’t say the same for the weather! Next thing you know, we’re at the grocery store choosing a nice plump turkey and getting ready for the holiday shopping rush. The holiday season is [...]

Quick Note: My current blog (this one) is so messed up right now. I’ve been having issues with my prior slideshow plugin and they have yet to respond back to me with ANYTHING! I really liked that plugin but if there not going to continue development or respond to emails, it’s time to move on. [...]

So a few weeks ago I attended the SoCal Photog Shootout. The Photog Shootout group is spreading the nation and is now here in Southern California. They partnered with Hanssie and Matt (who hosted previous shootouts which I blogged) to have the next big shootout in San Juan Capistrano. I gotta tell ya, the announcements for signing up felt a little like waiting for tickets to be released for a U2 concert. Everyone wanted to go, but only 50 were coming. So yes, as soon as I got the FaceBook

Just as I was starting to catch up on my blog posts, I failed again! BUT for good reasons this time, I swear! The end of June proved to be a time of some changes, specifically for myself as a photographer. If you haven’t heard of Dane Sanders from myself or other photographers, he’s the most REAL photographer you will ever meet. Dane started his Fast Track Roadshow Workshop a few months ago based on his book Fast Track Photographer. I gotta tell ya, his book is like no other photography book. You aren’t going to learn
Yes just a few days after bringing home the baby, I had a college senior photo session. Pretty funny story actually. Beverli is cousins with my wife Erika. I guess that makes me her cousin too? Or cousin-in-law? Anyway, I initially planned to have the session down in Old Town Orange. Fatigue, exhaustion, and, OK, laziness kicked in and I made a last minute change to the location. Diamond Bar and Walnut have a ton of little hidden gems for photo locations but I went to my all time favorite location at Cal Poly Pomona. More

Such a bad blogger I have been! But I have reasons (excuses) to my disappearance! On the business side of things, there are a lot of big changes going on in the backend to cause one to go crazy. Mainly, rebranding. I’m working with my awesome graphic designer Claire de Leon of Kalea Invitations on some full blown rebranding which is a long process! Included in that is a MAJOR theme overhaul on my blog which you may slowly see overtime. For anyone that has never run a business or is planning on starting their first business, I
So I spent all last week learning and absorbing all I could at the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Trade Show and Conference. Wow. I’m exhausted and my brain is ready to explode. I learned soooo much at WPPI this year and can’t wait until next year! It’s definitely going to take me to the next level and I’m itching to apply all that I’ve learned. Of all the classes I attended the top three were Dane Sanders, Joe Photo and Gene Higa. All three of them have inspired me and motivated me to not just

Met up with a couple dozen [b] School photographers for a trip to the Salton Sea. No particular purpose except to just take pictures and hang out with each other. I had a great time and it was nice to finally meet people in person rather than Twittering or talking on forums and FaceBook. Here’s some photos I quickly edited through. Some of the processing is done with my new MCP Actions, and I like it so far!

As I mentioned a few blog posts ago, I was going to be taking some photos of Aurelio & Julieta. They are the parents of our good friends Joanne and Alicia. Well they asked their daughters to put the anniversary party together with a small budget and sure enough they came through. The party was held at Delight Dance Studio in Chino, CA. This place is more than a dance studio, it’s a banquet facility, AND club all tucked away on the second floor of an “architecturally unique” shopping center. The facilities are beautifully

Haha! No I’m not talking about a wedding. I just merged my website and blog into one site. I was sick of dealing with maintaining two sites and updating, etc that I decided to just combine them together. I’ve seen a few other photographers do it, notably Jessica Claire as well as a few others, and figured I’d give it a try. I’m still tweaking and working on a couple sections but should be able to get those done within the next week or so. I just wanted to kick my website to the curb and not have to
I was able to finally get our very good friends, the Marianos, together for a quick photo session before our son’s birthday party. With them living out and Temecula and us out in Diamond Bar, it isn’t very often that we get to see each other’s family. Let me premise by saying that I’ve known Darius for over 15 years! He has been my brother I never had. We have gone through a lot, especially in college, but for the sake of staying on topic, I won’t go there!
Anyways, we made our way to my now new secret spot. Some

So I was diggin’ through my library of photos and totally forgot about Peter & Robin’s wedding. Probably because I took these way before my blog and website were made! I can’t believe I forgot about them (I mean the pictures)! Anyways, here’s a few of my favorites. These were taken with my Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 which I think I got only a few days before their wedding! Anyways Peter & Robin have been friends of ours for a while and we were happy to be a part of their intimate wedding. You may have seen pictures of Peter before
As promised in my last post, here are just a few photos of the combo family photo session at English Springs Park in Chino Hills, CA. Almost EVERY wedding/quinceanera photographer in this area shoots here and I was amazed to find the park empty when we got there. If anything it got crowded later on with families spending some time at the park and feeding the ducks in front of the “Please don’t feed the animals” sign! We had originally planned to have our session at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea but the
Paola was a train buddy of Erika and was very thoughtful in inviting us to their special day. It was at the Clarke Estate in Santa Fe Springs. It’s a beautiful location with its huge lawn and courtyard area. The ceremony was outside on the front lawn while the reception was in the back courtyard. For a photographer, the lighting was harsh at around 3:00pm with direct sunlight to our backs during the ceremony. And it was HOT! I’m sure the official photographers captured the shots as the altar area was shaded and
