Hey there fellow photographers! I just wanted to let you know I will be moving most of my photography resource related posts to my other site DSLRToolbox.net. There I will be posting product reviews and comparisons from the big name companies all the way to DIY or affordable products from eBay. I’ve found A LOT [...]

Los Angeles FastTrack Group Meeting

LA-FEO1tm

Last night was the second meeting for the FastTrack group, Los Angeles, lead by my good friend Leila Jones and graciously hosted by Janell Mithani. Today wasn’t a normal group meeting though. We headed to the hills to do a night shoot.

Are you one of the few people NOT flocking to Las Vegas for the annual mecca of Wedding and Portrait Photographers International? Even though I always tell photographers this is the one event to not miss, sometimes circumstance wins. Not to worry. Fast Track TV & AskDane.com will be streaming live from the trade show floor on Dane Sander’s UStream Channel.

Back Your A** Up – The Workshop

Baby A

Finally, coming VERY SOON, I will be announcing the date(s) for my workshop. What?!?! Another workshop by a photographer?!?! I won’t be talking about posing, workflow (well sort of), lighting, marketing, etc. My workshop will be covering what NO OTHER WORKSHOP has covered. Backing up and archiving your digital assets.

Putting social media on hold for a while…

Yup you read right! For the next two weeks, I’m going on a little social media fasting. The timing could never be as perfect as this week when we celebrate Thanksgiving. Let me go into a little (long) explanation as to why I’m doing this…

So back when I was a little guy, if I wanted to go out and play with my friends, I would run up the street, knock on the their door and ask their mom if they could come out and play. Simple as that right? If they didn’t, well, then I’d just walk back home or

07.15.09 – SoCal Photog Shootout

So a few weeks ago I attended the SoCal Photog Shootout. The Photog Shootout group is spreading the nation and is now here in Southern California. They partnered with Hanssie and Matt (who hosted previous shootouts which I blogged) to have the next big shootout in San Juan Capistrano. I gotta tell ya, the announcements for signing up felt a little like waiting for tickets to be released for a U2 concert. Everyone wanted to go, but only 50 were coming. So yes, as soon as I got the FaceBook

It’s been a long time….

I’m such a bad blogger but as mentioned in previous posts, my wife and I were expecting our third child. Well that time came. For the sake of internet weirdos, his name is withheld but his stats were: born at 3:25am, 20″ long, 7lbs 6oz. Oh and on my wife’s birthday (May 25th), which was totally unexpected. This whole time we were expecting him early, at least a couple weeks, since our other two kids were two weeks early. Yeah no not the case. This one decided to stay in the oven for just a bit longer! Needless to say

I need your votes!!

A few weekends ago, I participated on a group photo shoot with about 30 other photographers, amateur and pro, at the Brea Dam in Fullerton. See my previous post for more photos. This event was put on by fellow photographers Hanssie Trainor and Matt Saville. Well they decided to have a contest just for fun and this is my entry:

It would be totally awesome if you could vote for me!!! Go to this post on Hanssie’s website and click on the vote link at the top or bottom of the post and vote for my

Sneak Peek: Fantabulous February Facebook Photo Promo & Quick WPPI Recap

So I spent all last week learning and absorbing all I could at the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Trade Show and Conference. Wow. I’m exhausted and my brain is ready to explode. I learned soooo much at WPPI this year and can’t wait until next year! It’s definitely going to take me to the next level and I’m itching to apply all that I’ve learned. Of all the classes I attended the top three were Dane Sanders, Joe Photo and Gene Higa. All three of them have inspired me and motivated me to not just

Salton Sea Day Trip with the [b] School

Met up with a couple dozen [b] School photographers for a trip to the Salton Sea. No particular purpose except to just take pictures and hang out with each other. I had a great time and it was nice to finally meet people in person rather than Twittering or talking on forums and FaceBook. Here’s some photos I quickly edited through. Some of the processing is done with my new MCP Actions, and I like it so far!

Where did January go?!?! – The longest day…

Seriously, it came and gone in one fell swoop! I know, I already have been slacking by not posting the past two weeks, but I honestly can’t remember much of the last two weeks. That’s how crazy it was. This weekend I will be photographing Aurelio and Julieta’s 40th wedding anniversary party at a new venue in Chino Hills. It’s a funny yet kind of sad story, why 40th and not 50th? They said that they wanted to have a 50th celebration but just in case one of them doesn’t make it until then, they would just have a 40th

A little retouching goes a long way…

So as I am still trying to master Lightroom 2, I discovered the power of the adjustment brush. In there was a preset for skin softening. Normally, I would have to go into Photoshop to do any skin smoothing but this time I decided to give it a try.

I went to a bridal shoot last night and took some paparazzi style photos (subjects not necessarily directed by me) and left unsatisfied. Maybe because the couple has been together for over 12 years and didn’t have that newlywed spark. I forgot to mention, it was a staged bridal shoot, the couple

Powell Camera Shop – Covina, CA

I normally don’t talk about stores I’ve been to but I have to recommend Powell Camera Shop in Covina. They’ve been around for over 50 some years and their experience proves that. I’m typically a bargain big store shopper but Powell Camera’s prices are pretty on par. I’ve been in there a few times now to pick up photo paper, flash diffusers, etc and whenever I had questions they always came through on a solution. For the life of me I can’t remember their names right now! I was just in there today to

I never should have tried L lenses….

They are truly evil. The images that come out of them are soooo nice. Even on my 30D! One of my teachers has a 135L and let me try it out. Wow! So I then went to my local camera shop to try out the 35L and 85L. Wow again! The bokeh on them are creamy beautiful. Bokeh in laymen’s term is that nice background blur around the subject. So now I have to re-sort my BH Photo Video wish list. It’s gonna be a long time before I acquire these lenses, unless I get a sudden influx of bookings!

First post!

Okay, this is my first post for my photography site. I don’t know where to start! I’ll eventually be posting up some shots from client shoots to show my work/style.

In case you want to know what equipment I use, here is my ever growing list. I’ve also included a link to my wish list for those who would be gracious enough to help me
